Provenance: Single origin: "Las Animas", Chivor, Colombia.
These candy gems were mined in the Colombian region known as Chivor, a place nested among thick and lush green mountains about a 3hr drive from Bogota. The trip into the emerald deposits involve getting across the Chivor water damn and at least 30min on rural rudimentary roads. Chivor deposits are estimated to be 50 million years old (much older compared to the more buzz-worthy Muzo deposits which are 35 million yrs old) and are characterized mostly for their crystalline character and bright bluish shades of green. We sourced a production run directly from a mining family in a sector named “Las Animas” (“The spirits”). We preformed and polished this production run in Bogota at our cutters facilities and with a clear goal on getting fancy step cut shapes close enough to match as pairs and sets.
